There's something about this little fairy that soothes his loneliness. He doesn't believe, even with his usual suspicion, that she'd been sent here...as so many others had.
And her words, and enthusiasm, has him offer something he rarely does for anyone. "Come with me, I can show them to you in their element," and holds a hand out to her, palm up.
This fish knows the stars?! How can a little grape like her possibly understand why a fish would be swimming in the sky? It is a cute image though. She giggles and takes his hand without hesitation, bouncing on the balls of her feet.
"I didn't know a Fish Fairy could swim so high! You must be remarkable. Are the stars like pearls to you?" she stretches out her free hand, "Just a really long string of them, right?"
So trusting. Long fingers gently curl around her hand and her enthusiasm is infectious. Runyu wills them to his platform and the Dream Beast wanders over, giving the little grape a wary, curious look before he quells it with a stern look.
"This is a friend, behave." The sweet creature bows its head with a little purr and steps up to stand beside him as he releases her hand. Then, to her, he smiles again. "I know the patterns the stars need to take, and watch over their progress to make sure nothing interrupts them." He turns aside and nods to the faithful little Beast before his arms lash out with a careful trickle of power to send the next pattern into place.
The platform with the stars overhead might be the most breath-taking place she has visited yet! Jin Mi looks around in captivated wonder, jumping a little when the Dream Beast appears. His little purr makes her smile and she holds out her hand to him.
"He's just taking care of you!" she knows all about that, "I have friends like him." and she is sure they are panicking right now, wondering where she is.
But. She had to leave the Water Mirror. At least once. Runyu helps lighten her heart again and she steps up beside him, beaming at his spell.
"Wow! I never thought about someone controlling them. Do you do this every night?"
And, no, she can't resist rubbing over the Dream Beast's ears. Who could?
The Dream Beast ducks around behind Runyu before prancing around a bit, then sniffs at her hand before letting her pet it. Again Runyu can't resist the little smile.
"Yes. This Dream Beast helps with my duties." And helps ease the loneliness.
But this fairy's delight eases it even more, and he finds himself not looking forward to when she inevitably leaves and then realizes he's too much trouble to risk staying near. Like most people.
"Whaaat?!" Jin Mi gasps and then directs her question at the Dream Beast, "The Fish Fairy is the Night Immortal? Why didn't you tell me?"
Of course the question is silly, but she is pretty sure she detected some mischief in those blue eyes.
"You let me make a fool of myself. Calling him Fish Fairy." she huffs and puffs out her cheeks before grinning, "I'm honored to meet you, Your Highness. I'm but a simple grape fairy, so I'm not sure how I should speak to you..." or anyone.
Part of him freezes, though he tries not to let it show on his face or posture. It starts, surely it starts now. Just in admitting what he is, she'll either pull away immediately or seek to use him for personal gain.
The Dream Beast nudges his hand, subtly reminding him to breathe, and that maybe her cheerfulness isn't an act. Runyu looks down at his faithful companion when he responds, though he speaks to her. "As you have been. Please. If it is not too much trouble, it is just Runyu." With her. He hopes.
"Runyu." she tries out the name and hums, watching how the Dream Beast interacts with her new friend. Had she said something upsetting? Jin Mi admits - willingly - that she is too dumb to know when she stumbles with etiquette.
"Runyu, have I upset you?" she reaches for his hand again, finding contact comforting, "I really am stupid. I've never left the Water Mirror and everything here is so..." her cheeks pink, "It's a lot for a little fairy like me. But if you're okay with me as I am, that makes me happy."
Fingers slip around to rub under the antlered creature's chin, causing those blue eyes to close in contentment with another little purr.
Runyu's attention is tugged back to Jin Mi when she takes his hand again, and he finds himself melting a little. His smile is small, but genuine as he squeezes her fingers a little. "I think you are honest, not stupid. Just be yourself with me, I don't want to be Your Highness when it's just us."
Surely he's allowed one thing for himself? For once?
He tries to tease a little next, it's not as easy with someone not his brother. "You can make it up to me by telling me your name."
Anyone who is kind to animals wins a few points in her book! The Old Carrot is afraid of rabbits and she supposes she should fear birds, being a grape, but it's hard when you see nests full of fluffy chicks. The Dream Beast is like that too; he is simply too cute to cause fear.
The warmth around her fingers helps her breathe easier. Losing a friend for being rash or crude would... Well, it would make her sad.
"Ahhh I understand." she holds a finger to her lips, "That must get tiring, huh? As far as I can see, there aren't many immortals. I bet you get lonely."
That is a state she knows well. Even with fairy friends around her, she feels...different. And the Chief is much harder on her than the rest!
"Me?" she blinks, "I'm Jin Mi. Xufeng, the Crow...I mean Phoenix...brought me here."
